Why I take a Blended Fine Art Approach to Wedding Photography

Fine art wedding photography is a style of wedding photography that aims to create beautiful, artistic images that are inspired by the aesthetics of fine art and typically either replicate the classic look of film with digital photography, or are documented primarily with film photography. This approach to wedding photography is focused on creating timeless, romantic images that capture the wedding day in a beautiful and classic yet editorial way.

One of the key differences between fine art wedding photography and other styles, such as photojournalism or traditional wedding photography, is the way in which the images are captured. Fine art wedding photographers often take a more intentionally styled approach to their photographs, carefully composing each shot to create a beautiful, artistic image.

In contrast, photojournalistic wedding photographers aim to capture candid, unplanned moments as they happen, giving minimal direction. while traditional wedding photographers focus on creating a more posed and heavily directed approach and follow a set shot list with more of a focus on posed photos of large groups.

Another difference between fine art wedding photography and other styles is the emphasis on lighting and composition. Fine art wedding photographers often use lighting techniques and compositions that are inspired by the aesthetics of fine art, such as using soft, diffused light or backlighting to create a romantic atmosphere and draw the viewer's eye to the subject. They also leverage strong composition to create balanced, aesthetically pleasing images.

Photojournalistic wedding photographers may prioritize capturing candid moments with a wide view over the elegant styling and composition, and traditional wedding photographers typically rely on studio-like artificial lighting setups and more standard composition.

Fine art wedding photography is a popular choice for couples who want beautiful, timeless images that capture the romance and beauty of their wedding day. While it may require more posing and styling than other styles of wedding photography, the resulting images are often breathtaking and truly artistic.
